AUDIENCE FEEDBACK: Titles

AUDIENCE FEEDBACK: Titles

I asked a few people to answer some questions. We asked them what genre of film each font reminded them of. This was very helpful with deciding which font to go with.

AUDIENCE FEEDBACK: Rough Cut 3

I asked my little sister who is 14 to give me some feedback on what she thought of our 3rd Rough Cut. I asked her several questions and what we can do to improve the film opening.

SOUNDTRACK: lucy's final recording

The recording

We have done a few recordings of Lucy doing Otis Redding's song Try a Little Tenderness but after deciding on which section we wanted to use we have recorded this using a camera and boom mic.

AUDIENCE RESEARCH/FEEDBACK: genre

Why I did it
This is the questionnaire I asked a few people to gain some feed back on the genre of film we should do. I wanted to see if people could recognise the films that have inspired our film. However the main reason was too see if people within our target audience (15-21) would watch films of the same genre.

The questionnaire
Can you name these films and would you watch them.

MAIN TITLE: the font used

Candelabra title
I wanted the font of our film to signify the rom-com aspect of our hybrid genre. Therefore I decided upon the font brush script as it is a sans serif font which is curled signifying a playfulness therefore suggesting the comedic aspect of the film. However the black and white colouring connotes the social realist aspect the the genre as it is more serious.

Inspiration
I was inspired by the title from 'Grease' as it's is also curled and signify the films romantic and comedy aspect however the red specifically connotes the romantic part of the film but instead I have used back and white to show the more serious nature of our film.

AUDIENCE FEEDBACK: First Rough Cut

For our .... rough cut we got two media students in the year above evaluate and give us feedback on our film opening. They commented on the use of camera work, whether the mise-en-scene and props within the frame were appropriate, editing, shot transitions, sound with images and titles.

Conal (one of the students), said the bedroom scene needs 'smoothing out'. He also commented on the framing saying that he liked the shot and framing of Harry in the shop scene from outside the door and also said to put the Bad boy scene in between Holly and Harry's scene to distinguish the love triangle. Conal said he liked the idea of the record transition between the shop and classroom scene but said that the freeze frame needs to be more apparent so that the audience doesn't get confused and loose the idea of continuity. The titles he said were also good apart from the order as it should be compony, actors and compony's again and to mix them up a bit.

Amber said that the establishing shot needs to be steadier and she didn't like one of the establishing shots. She also commented on the lack of close ups and also the classroom scene needs to be more thought out that includes a 3 shot. The love triangle concept also needs to be highlighted more in the editing and again, improvements on the freeze frames. I really liked the idea that she had of fading the music between each scene to link them together as i think it would create the link we are missing.

TECHNOLOGY VOICEOVER: Bad boy take 3 and a review

There are multiple other posts on voiceovers, looking for example at the varying scripts we tried out. This is a brief overview.

BAD BOY VOICEOVERS
This is my 3rd take for the Bad boy voiceover

We ended up using voiceover 1 in our final cut as voiceover 2 and 3 steered too much to to signifying the character as unintelligent. Voiceover 1 however, as well as successfully denoting the arrogance, but also exuberance, of the bad boy character, anchored both his social class and regional identity.

The normative expectation of this character is to be heterosexual but we have subtly signified his homosexual yearning for the Harri character ... the blonde he refers to.

HOLLIE VOICEOVERS
This has been recorded with 3 different scripts. At first we used the voiceover tool in Final Cut but as we went on the sound quality wasn't as good as we would like it to be so we started using the external mic.
We experimented with different scripts trying to strike a balance between signifying this character as quirkily mature but still relatable and appealing to a youth audience, so played around with quite contrasting intertextual references. In the end we leaned slightly more heavily towards an older secondary audience being able to fully follow the preferred reading for this element.

HARRI VOICEOVERS
Harri's voiceover has been recorded 3 times like the other two. In each one we have kept with the same script but the key element was to anchor a clear binary with the bad boy character in terms of social class.

USING GARAGEBAND
We used garage band to record some of the voiceovers and add effects to them like an echo. Here is a video of me using garage band for the soundtrack for the ident.
